Matt Bryant, kicker for the Atlanta Falcons, drilled a game winning 47 yard field goal to beat the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. He is quoted as saying pressure is what you feel when you're not prepared. Others have said it. It is true to a certain extent.
But more importantly, pressure is what you feel when you don't know who you are. Pontius Pilate gave in to pressure to execute Jesus. He wasn't his own man, he was ruled by pressure. He admits the pressure, and by doing that he admits that he does not know who he is. He had the authority to release Jesus, but gave in to pressure of the religious authorities.
Contrast that with Jesus, who was clear on his identity - He was born to die for our sins.
When we know who we are, who God has created us to be, it relieves alot of pressure. I don't have to pretend. I don't have to live up to other's expectations. I don't have to worry about my circumstances. I don't make decisions based on someone else's agenda. God's got it, I belong to Him. I'm always prepared to be me!
