With summer here, I'm able to go on my back deck early in the morning to read my bible and pray. As the sun begins to break through the clouds, the birds celebrate the new day with loud singing and chirping. They sense the new day and are excited about what is coming. The sounds don't last all day, but begin to wane as the day warms up.
I think this is a great metaphor for Sunday morning worship.
On Sundays we worship God so that God's life can be breathed into us and so we can celebrate his goodness with other people. As the week wears on, sometimes that celebration may be begin to wane through the struggles of everyday life or through the tiredness and the busyness that we all experience. But then Sunday comes again, a day when we can come together and worship, to be re-energized and renewed and reminded of who God is and what he wants to do in our lives. Sundays can get us through the week.
Be sure not to miss worship on Sundays, wherever you are. Hopefully I’ll see you this Sunday as we come together to worship.
