Movie Review

Went to check out Lucky You last night for our date night. As you probably guessed, it was more along the lines of a chick flick. Huck (Eric Bana) is a professional poker player, whose father L.C. (Robert Duvall) taught him to play. You got the whole father/son wound thing happening, with Huck never able to win the big one. L.C. always beats him. So, in the end, Huck and L.C. wind up at the final table of the World Championship of Poker together.

Throw in Drew Barrymore for the love interest, and it was predictible, predictible, predictible.

You're Kidding Me

Alright, this is off the chain. We have now reached a point where there is a countdown to a movie TRAILER release. Check out this Pirates of the Caribbean 3 trailer release countdown!

While I've got your attention, I want to alert you to Easter. Everyone you know will go to church at least on Easter - everyone. So, use this as a time to invite them to Stonecreek. We'll be providing an evite for our new series - Life in Suburbia, as well as other avenues for you to be on mission in your community.

Also, we'll have 3 services - 9:00, 10:30, and 12:00. We need you to make every effort to attend the 9:00 or 12:00. The 12:00 will have some special elements for that service only, so it will be worth your while. 10:30 will be crowded, and you'll probably end up in overflow (oh, I mean the bonus room), so you will want to come to one of the other services and make room for our guests. The truly spiritual among you will do that...as a matter of fact, I won't make it to the 10:30 service in order to make room for guests.

Movie Review 2.16.2007

My wife and I went to see Breach today as our “date night.” Sometimes we do our dates on Friday morning, while the kids are in school.

Breach wasn’t bad, a FBI movie that chronicles the downfall of agent Robert Hansen, in one of the worst intelligence disasters in U.S. history. Hansen sold secrets to the Soviets, which resulted in the possible execution of 3 KGB officers. He also gained around $1.4M from the sale of these secrets, and caused other unknown casualties.

Why did he do it? How could someone who was so faithful to the church, his family, and his country, be a sexual deviant who betrayed his country? One phrase that he used during the movie captures his motive. After being berated by his clerk, who told him that he didn’t matter, Hansen replies – “I matter plenty.” This seems to sum up his life, his quest for value.

I believe that is a core desire for everyone. God has placed that deep within us - a desire to matter. At Stonecreek, we believe that everyone was created to matter. We spend time searching that out, and trying to prove it to ourselves. Eventually, though, we must matter to God. That is the mission of our church, to make sure people know that they matter to God, and they can experience this value through following Christ.

Invite someone to Stonecreek this week. When they leave, hopefully they’ll know how much they matter to God.

Welcome
